Context

The gas and power consumption in individual households is usually only available to consumers in a very coarse-grained way, e.g. once per month.

Goal

Give individual consumers the chance to understand the effect of their behavior in their personal households on gas and power consumption.

Project

• Develop a software system that continuously monitors gas and power consumption by taking pictures of the meters (see picture above).
• Use image recognition to convert the pictures into numbers and store the numbers in a database
• Develop a responsive web application to visualize the consumption
• Provide features to show the effect of specific actions in the household on the power and gas consumption; for instance show the gas consumption (and the cost) of taking a shower, or the power consumption of running the dishwasher.
